The Lightscribe CD DVD Duplicator 20x SATA Drive Copier quickly duplicates 5 CD's and it's easy to use. I've used another brand that was considerably less user friendly. This one was easy to understand coming right out of the box. (I didn't even read the instructions. Haha.) I couldn't be more happy with it.

The disks worked very well, the label looks professional. The only downside is the length of time to print the label to the disk: ~5-7min for simple text, ~20min with graphics.

I've tried 3 different Lightscribe dvds: Memorex, Philips and hp. These Philips Lightscribe DVD's are hands down the best when it comes to the visability of the image imprinted on the dvd itself....hp being the worst. I'm sticking with Philips until something better comes out..i also haven't experienced any bad dvds in the 25 pack yet, and i've used 18 of them already.........great buy!

For those that are used to using the combination of "AnyDVD by Slysoft" and "DVDShrink 3.2" to backup dvd's and are curious if there are similar steps for doing this with blu-rays. IT IS. Unfortunately there is no "dvdshrink 3.2 for blu-ray disks". There are several other methods that are very effective. I searched for a long time to find out this stuff so read carefully.
In general, what I do with this drive, is backup my blu-ray movies to an external hard drive, then stream them to my 52 inch samsung from my laptop using its HDMI port(which doesn't even have a blu-ray drive. If this sounds like something your trying to do then read on. If not, you should highly consider it.
Using AnyDVDHD by Slysoft first insert the blu-ray movie, right click the AnyDVD icon and click "Rip Video DVD to Harddisk". After that go to the directory in which you ripped the DVD to. Then Locate the correct .m2ts file that contains the movie (BDMV/STREAM).
An .m2ts file for dummy's is the blu-ray version of an .vob file. So usually the largest .m2ts file is the movie. You can run .m2ts files as video files through Nero v8 Showtime. Once you find the main movie .m2ts files (usually about 25 gigs). Locate another freeware program called TsRemux. This is just like DVDshrink 3.2 in the way that it can stream out unnecessary content (subtitles/foreign languages). Through TsRemux open up the .m2ts file that you have determined is the movie. Then you will see the extra contents. Select the first video stream, the first audio stream, and the first subtitle stream (they are usually the English ones, sometimes you may have to re-do this to locate the correct sound, but there should only be ONE OF EACH selected). Make sure you click the box about where the streams are that says "Blu-Ray TrueHD to .....". Click "remux" and viola. What was a 25 gig movie file should now only be about 15 gigs.

NOTE**** Right now it is WAY more cost efficient to back up your blu-rays to an external hard drive than to re-burn them onto a blu-ray disk. Disks average at about 25 dollars each. That's about eight movies for 200 dollars right? A 320 gig e.xternal will run you just as much as eight blu-ray disks but can fit 21 movies (at 15 gigs each).
NOTE* There are no advertisements in this review, I'm simply stating what I use to backup my own blu-ray disks, please only use the software that you find is most convenient for yourself. Thanks for reading and I hope I was helpful.
*Any further question google "Laymans Guide to Blu-ray" and click the first link.
Good Luck!

Purchased this a few days after Christmas. Always wanted a Blu-Ray burner and set my purchase price for a top notch drive at below $100.00. It took over two years for the price to finally come down. The drive is very easy to install and has burned perfect back ups from 3 different BD-R disc manufactures so it does not seem to be finicky on the blank media it will use. Firmware update through Liteon SmartPack is a one step simple process. Also Liteon has online chat technical advice with very knowledgeable advisers. Also includes CyberLink Blu-ray suite software. If your looking for a very fast quiet BD burner that is easily updated with good technical support do not hesitate to purchase this drive.

Average Reviews:

I recently got an Aspire One netbook to have an ultra-light computer in my briefcase on a daily basis. I soon realized it would be nice to have a DVD drive to play and burn DVD's and CD's.
The LG Portable Super Multi-Drive is slim and light, just like my Acer Aspire netbook. Its glossy black top attracts fingerprints, just like the Aspire...they look like they were made for each other.
The LG Drive plugs into a USB port on my netbook, so no bulky power pack is needed. The USB cord has two power plugs, because some USB ports may not put out enough power, so the cord allows plugging into two USB ports to get a higher level of power, if needed. One plug was enough with the Acer.
Because the unit is designed to draw a minimum of power, the DVD tray only pops out about an inch when you press the button. You pull it out the rest of the way manually. It also has a tiny "bobby pin" hole for an emergency release, to open the tray if a DVD gets stuck in the tray.
I used it first to watch a DVD movie I had rented. Windows Media Player with Window 7 produced a terrific picture, but no sound. I downloaded the free VLC media player, and the LG then played back the DVD movie with both a great picture, and nice stereo sound.
When I then played the DVD again using Windows Media Player, WMP also was producing stereo sound. I suspect the VLC player installed an audio codec that Windows 7 was missing, and that codec is now being used by both VLC and Windows to play back DVD movies.
I also used the LG to copy some of my favorite CD's to the Acer's hard drive. The LG did the job quickly and quietly. The LG is small enough and light enough to carry along on a vacation. It converts my Acer netbook into a nice movie player, and lets me listen to music CD's when the movie is over.
I am guessing that a lot of folks using Windows 7 may run into the audio problem when trying to watch a movie DVD. They need to understand that the problem has nothing to do with the LG Drive, it simply means they need to download the free VLC media player and allow it to install the audio codecs that Windows 7 is missing...thanks Bill Gates for leaving essential audio codecs out of Windows 7.

LaCie USB 2.0 Portable 8x DVD RW Drive with Lightscribe 301485 Review

LaCie USB 2.0 Portable 8x DVD RW Drive with Lightscribe 301485
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I purchased one of these LaCie 301485 drives on 6/2/10, in order to utilize the LightScribe printing feature. It never would complete labeling a disc, constantly giving me a "communications error". Being the good customer (and really wanting the LightScribe feature to work) I had already registered the product with LaCie, and so contacted their customer service about a fix or a replacement.
LaCie customer service is broken, at best. All my correspondence was by e-mail, since I refused to pay their $15 per phone call (probably to some out-sourced call center anyway), and it took another 2 weeks of e-mails (usually 1 or 2 days between responses) where they repeated the troubleshooting tips from their website, before they agreed to fix the unit under warranty (which they then shorted by 6 months by entering my purchase date as 12/15/09!).
I returned the unit to LaCie on 6/24/10. I received a new replacement unit on 7/8/10. The first disc I labeled worked fine, albeit a bit light. The second disc gave me the familiar "communications error". Same routine as before, 3 different computers (2 iMacs, 1 Windows netbook), re-installing the host and labeling software, re-starting machines when prompted, etc., all to no avail. All I get is the same "communications error" the previous unit gave me. I now own a $70 paperweight. (Sure they both burn data fine, but my computer burners already work - I wanted the labeling.)
I refuse to keep paying to ship back a defective unit and waiting 1 or 2 days between answers from LaCie's customer service. These units are junk, too bad since the LightScribe seemed so promising. I am going to get an inkjet that prints on CD's, and never buying anything from LaCie again. I would NOT recommend this unit to anyone.

If your looking for a great deal combined with a great product, than this is it. Vinpower Digital always has the best deals around and their DVDs are great. A few months ago I bought a 100 bundle of Vinpower DVDs and I never had a problem. Every single DVD burned without a write error or a read error even at 16x and I never had a DVD that didn't play in my player. So when I needed more LightScribe DVDs, I was glad to find Vinpower again. I just received these a few days ago and I used about 5 so far and every one is flawless. The LightScribe quality is good as well. One thing I should mention is although the description says these are 4.7 gb, they're not. They're 4,700,372,992 bytes which comes out to 4.37 GB. This was the same for the first ones I bought too and some Sony DVDs I have are also this way.

I bought a set of these Memorex Cool Colors LightScribe CDs about two months ago. Unlike other reviewers of these new color LightScribe media, I have not noticed any fading in the burned images, even after two months. (I messed up on on of the red CDs, so I burned a test image on the label and have really mistreated this CD, left in the sun, found it under a couch. I've noticed no deterioration in the color...) One thing to note, the do seem to get a "film" over the label image soon after being burned. I don't know what this is... I do wish they would sell them in single color packs, though. I find the yellow, red and green (in that order) CDs have better contrast with the burned images than the blue/turquoise CD. (I bought on "opened" pack, and someone had switched out all the orange for red...) One thing to note, make sure you have the most up-to-date LightScribe software. I know there was a new release in Dec 07, and it has a new LightScribe Control Panel where you can adjust the contrast to burn a darker image. This has really helped. These really do make beautiful CDs.

The HP 461646 GT20L Lightscribe Laptop DVD burner was the exact replacement for the defective one. Just had to remove the plastic face plate from the old unit and install it on the new one, configure the rear connector, slip it into place in the laptop and, bingo, I was done.
Tested the new unit immediately by burning a 4 DVD set of computer backup disks. Burned them without a hitch. Did not test the lightscribe feature but assumed it was OK after burning the backup disks.

LG External 12x Super Multi Blue Lightscribe Blu-Ray Rewriter BE12LU30 Review

LG External 12x Super Multi Blue Lightscribe Blu-Ray Rewriter BE12LU30
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I bought the LG BE12LU30 because it had the features I was looking for: an external drive capable of fast read/write speeds for CD, DVD and BD discs of various types. I also wanted the ability to print a label on the disc using LightScribe technology. There aren't many external Blu-ray rewrite drives to choose from and this one, having just been released in October 2010, had not yet been extensively reviewed by end users, but I decided to take a chance on it. I wasn't thrilled with the white and black exterior color scheme, but the unit has a solid well-built feel to it. I do like the blue read/write activity light on the front and the stand that allows it to be placed in a vertical position to minimize the space taken up on the desktop.
You can connect the BE12 to your computer via the USB 2.0 or the eSATA port. I'm using the eSATA port to get the maximum 12X write speed. Using the USB port will drop performance to 6X. The eSATA connection is capable of 3000 Mbps versus 480 Mbps for the USB, although the capacity of the eSATA port is not fully utilized. A short cable is included to convert an internal SATA connection to an eSATA slot plate at the back of a tower computer case. I didn't try it out, but included with the software is a USB Boost utility which improves the data rate over the USB somewhat.
I installed the BE12 on my Lenovo Q700 HTPC running Windows 7 without a problem. A software CD is included with a number of CyberLink applications: Power2Go, PowerDVD, PowerProducer, MediaShow, PowerBackup, and LabelPrint. They are not the latest versions, however. The software also includes USB Booster and the LG Tool Kit. The latter should be run because it checks for and installs the latest LG firmware for the drive. It launches automatically whenever the PC is booted up. You may want to disable it by running msconfig and unchecking `LG Firmware Autoupdate' in the Startup tab. You can also run it from the Start menu.
The BE12LU30 is a LightScribe enabled drive, but except for a tiny LightScribe logo on the back of the carton, this feature is not mentioned anywhere in the documentation. You have to install the LightScribe system software to be able to use this feature. It's available from the LightScribe website. Once this software is installed, the LabelPrint utility will automatically sense the availability of a connected LightScribe enabled drive and provide the means to print a label of your design directly onto the front surface of the disc. You have to turn the disc over in the disc tray to print the label, and, apparently, there is a sensor to detect the presence of the LightScribe disc in the proper position so you can't make a mistake. Unfortunately, only CDs and DVDs are available at this time with the LightScribe printable surface.
I've only used the BE12 a couple of times so far. Once to write a DVD+R disc along with a LightScribe label and once to write a BD-R disc. I used the Power2Go application in both cases and the burns were accomplished with no hitches. The drive is fairly quiet, as well. I wrote 820MB of data to the DVD+R in 15 minutes at 16X and another 15 minutes to print the LightScribe label. I then wrote 6.3GB of data to a BD-R disc in 72 minutes at 12X maximum speed. Both discs were written flawlessly on the first attempt.
I am very pleased with the apparent quality of the BE12, its ability to read/write virtually all CD, DVD and BD media, and its superb performance. I have no reservations about recommending this Blu-ray drive.

Not only did they not acknowledge my order, but they cancelled with NO REASON given to Amazon. I was told that the product was shipping out on Thursday. When I came in on Monday, the order no longer existed in my profile! No phone call, no emails. LG Electronics 20X USB Slim Lightscribe DVD+/-RW External Drive GE20LU11 - Retail (Black) Review

LG Electronics 20X USB Slim Lightscribe DVD+/-RW External Drive GE20LU11 - Retail (Black)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I have a limited number of USB ports on my work laptop, so I didn't want to dedicate 2 ports to one device. There were a number of other DVD RW drives available, but most of them seemed to use 2 ports, one for power, data, and control; the other just for power. I would rather have one USB port, and a wall wart.
When I found this one, it didn't say it used two USB ports, so I thought it got all the power it needed from one USB port. Turns out, it has a wall wart,
but no power switch. To get the computer to recognize it is anti-intuitive.
Instead of powering it up, then connecting the USB cable, you have to do it the other way round.
It seems the only way to get files onto an erased disc is to format it for "Drag-To_Disc", which takes up to 14 minutes, then use the eject menu item on the drive drop down menu. When you do that, it gives you a dialog box about allowing the disk to continue to be usable as a drag to disk, or close it.
I chose to close it, and it took up to 4 minutes to close it. In the meantime, Windows popped up an error box about not having a disk in the drive. The drive continued to churn until it had closed the disk, and the contents are usable in another, non "Drag-to_Disk" compatible file.
This is only for a CD-RW. Haven't tried it with a DVD-RW, etc.
Shipping was phenomenal. I ordered it Friday AM, and picked standard shipping. It was on my doorstep Saturday afternoon. What did they use, the Star Trek Transporter?

Vantec NexStar DX NST-530U2 5.25-Inch IDE to USB 2.0 Optical Drive External Enclosure (Black) Review

Vantec NexStar DX NST-530U2 5.25-Inch IDE to USB 2.0 Optical Drive External Enclosure (Black)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
First off, this is probably one of the best IDE to USB external 5.25" enclosures out there. It is very well constructed, and is slightly larger than a typical lesser 5.25" enclosure. But the extra size is there for all the right reasons: It has an internal power supply, and uses a standard power cord, rather than a proprietary external power supply brick. And most noticeably, this thing is Solidly constructed. It is worth the money, and is a solid first rate enclosure.
I can understand why most people give it 5 stars. I will only give it 4 stars, but will still recommend it... Why?: Flakiness in Lightscribe support. That was my primary reason for buying this case... Most people are going to stick a nice DVD burner inside this thing, and very many DVD burners now come with LightScribe as a standard feature. I was hoping to use this primarily for LightScribe labeling of my burns.
LightScribe support is hit or miss with this unit: After I put mine together, I was very impressed with the results, very professional looking. It has a humungous blue LED panel on front, which I covered up with black tape, as it is the biggest brightest light panel I have ever seen on a single bay enclosure. My unit is very quiet, fan seems very efficient, and I like that it has a toggle on/off switch on back. I have burned dual layer DVDs perfectly, and even burns reliably on both highest quality and cheap quality media. I have had 100% reliability on my burns. My Plextor PX-870A works perfectly in it, EXCEPT for LightScribe labeling. I can never get it too work without an error...
(Lightscribe worked when I temporarily internally mounted the burner in a tower, but never worked in this external case...)
In my after the fact research, I have found this to be a hit and miss issue with many DVD burners assembled into an external case. LightScribe is of course the mostly responsibility of the DVD maker, but some other external enclosures are now "certified" for LightScribe support. This Vantec does not make that claim, unfortunately. I have now found that No DVD makers really recommends using a LIghtScribe Internal DVD burner in an external case, and they blame the external case if you have failure. BUT, just as many people do claim to have success using an internal burner in an external case for LightScribe support successfully. It is almost 50/50. The case bears part of the blame for LightScribe failure...
So if you are going to use this case for Lightscribe labeling, please research first. Try to find someone who has posted that a particular Internal drive has been successful with LightScribe labeling in an external case. My Plextor PX-870A definitely does not do LightScribe work in this case without error: It always fails . I have definitely made sure I have the latest Firmwares, latest OSX updates, latest drivers, latest version of burning application, and definitely the latest version of all LightScribe support files. My cables and assembly are perfect. Lightscribe just always fails, but data/music/video burns always work. And after much research, I have found this to be a common complaint with external cases.
But otherwise, this is a top-notch enclosure....

LG Electronics BP06LU10 LightScribe 6X External Blu-ray Rewriter Drive (Black) Review

LG Electronics BP06LU10 LightScribe 6X External Blu-ray Rewriter Drive (Black)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
When I first saw this unit, I have second doubts getting it. I make a lot of short films for myself and for my family and friends but I need something to burn it in HD quality video. A AVCHD-DVD is too short and it has a small capacity to make one in a DVD-R. I heard good things about blu-rays and people are eager to know if the Macbook Pro can support the hardware. Luckily I got this one, tried on my Macbook Pro.... VIOLA! It worked! I used Roxio Toast Titanium Pro for burning BD-R with my Macbook Pro.
On my netbook, the device worked (and I was using Windows XP Pro!). I can burn files and read them from the unit. The disadvantage of burning files from my netbook to the blu-ray is it takes more time to burn them on disc. Never thought it took me more than an hour and a half to burn on a 25gb 4x BD-R (using the latest Nero Burning software, I forgot the version number). But still, it was worth it!
I recommend this to the people who love making videos on their Mac and needs a burner to make High Definition videos on a Blu-ray Discs.
