This DVD/CD Reader/Burner is a good product. I got this one because it needs to be plugged in. I didn't want one that would drain the power off of my Laptop battery. This product is very reasonably priced and works well, my only complaint is that it is a bit slow.

This device comes with software that barely gets you the ability to play hds and Blues. It's okay, but no dolby surround. They offer an "upgrade" to make it a complete player for $100. So really, this device costs about $100 more than it says it does, if you want a complete product. I'll get the software I need, but there's no way I'm paying them $100. "WIN DVD9 plus blue ray", looks to be a better product than the one they push. It still costs about $100 though.

LG Electronics GGW-H20L LightScribe 6X Blu-Ray and 3X HD DVD-ROM SATA Drive - Bulk (Black) Review

This is one of the few and soon to be discontinued examples of a computer optical drive that can read the now obsolete format HD DVD. However this is not possible without the supplied Cyberlink Software that is provided. An earlier drive that I purchased had an older version of the Cyberlink 7.0 software that produced an audio delay when watching HD DVD's, but this drive and software had no such problem.
Indeed these are the last of the HD DVD drives. The lesser sibling the GGC-H20L(cannot burn Blu-ray but does read them) is already disappearing from inventories. I don't expect to see this drive much longer and have snapped up a few in order to be able to build some HTPC rigs that are flexible in accommodating any format. Enjoy it while it lasts.

LG Electronics GGC-H20L LightScribe Blu-Ray/HD DVD Combo Drive (Black) Review

LG Electronics GGC-H20L LightScribe Blu-Ray/HD DVD Combo Drive (Black)
Average Reviews:

Good Things:
1) It reads Blu-Ray and HD DVD discs. Great for a home theater or do-everything PC. HD DVD capability will be attractive to cheapskates who can buy HD movies for a fraction of the cost of Blu-Ray.
2) It does the usual stuff you'd expect, reading and writing DVD (single and dual layer) and CDROM. It rips audio CDs just fine too.
3) It claims to support Lightscribe discs, but I've never tested that. Sharpie markers are cheaper and faster.
Bad Things:
1) The bundled player software is not a full version, so you may need to upgrade or buy a different program. (New versions may not support HD DVD.)
2) The first drive I got was defective... it wouldn't read Blu-Ray or HD DVDs consistently, although it read and wrote DVD just fine. The replacement works great. This is why it lost one star.
3) There can be problems if your TV and computer video card aren't HDCP compliant. Something called AnyDVD may fix that if it's legal where you are. (Cyberlink's "BD Advisor" program can check if your computer is up to the task of playing Blu-Ray content.)
4) It doesn't write Blu-Ray or HD-DVD, but who cares, since you can't afford Blu-Ray blank media yet anyway.
5) The activity LED is too bright if it's in your line of sight when watching movies. I covered it with tape.

LG GP08LU10 8x DVD±RW Slim Super Multi Drive with LightScribe Review

Average Reviews:

I bought this drive specifically for use with one of my Windows-based pcs. It works great with that, which I expected, and the windows software that comes with the drive is also wonderful and most welcome.
I did not, however, expect that it would work with my Macbook 1.83 gHz Core2 Duo. My internal optical drive is dying, and while it's pretty easy to use a network drive for installs and stuff, it's definitely not as convenient to go back and forth to the other desk. The documentation and all but one of the reviews were pretty clear that this was not a Mac-friendly product, so I was pleasantly surprised when the Mighty MacBook jumped right on playing the music cd in the drive.
I was even MORE surprised when it burned a DVD under the native/finder/disk burning application (no third party software involved at all).
And I was elated to learn that LightScribe had free downloads for the Mac, but I didn't really expect them to work in Snow Leopard.
But they do. AND it plays movies in the DVD player software. I don't know for certain whether my version of dvd player is the one that shipped with my macbook, or whether it's something that was bundled with my snow leopard disk, but movies open right up - impressively fast, as a matter of fact.

LG Electronics CH08LS10K LightScribe SATA Blu-ray Combo Drive, Bulk (Black) Review

I have an older Dell Precision with a Pentium 4. I was worried about getting the SATA set up, but it was no problem. I use the drive to extract MKVs and backup movies. So far, so good. Just know that to handle Blu-Rays, your PC should have an upgraded graphics card and power supply. Also, check out several different players because some will work better on your PC than others. I haven't burnt any CDs or DVDs with it, but have read elsewhere that it is pretty slow. So I left my old DVD burner in the 2nd bay.

Got it home, popped open the pc, used the included sata cables to install it. Closed it up, turned it on, Windows 7 recognized it right away. Then I installed the included Cyberlink software. I was watching a Blu-Ray within 30 minutes of opening the box. I run a HDMI through my Sony STR-DH800 to my 56" Panasonic 56lcz70, looks and sounds amazing. Turned on the pass-through feature, loved it.

For those that are used to using the combination of "AnyDVD by Slysoft" and "DVDShrink 3.2" to backup dvd's and are curious if there are similar steps for doing this with blu-rays. IT IS. Unfortunately there is no "dvdshrink 3.2 for blu-ray disks". There are several other methods that are very effective. I searched for a long time to find out this stuff so read carefully.
In general, what I do with this drive, is backup my blu-ray movies to an external hard drive, then stream them to my 52 inch samsung from my laptop using its HDMI port(which doesn't even have a blu-ray drive. If this sounds like something your trying to do then read on. If not, you should highly consider it.
Using AnyDVDHD by Slysoft first insert the blu-ray movie, right click the AnyDVD icon and click "Rip Video DVD to Harddisk". After that go to the directory in which you ripped the DVD to. Then Locate the correct .m2ts file that contains the movie (BDMV/STREAM).
An .m2ts file for dummy's is the blu-ray version of an .vob file. So usually the largest .m2ts file is the movie. You can run .m2ts files as video files through Nero v8 Showtime. Once you find the main movie .m2ts files (usually about 25 gigs). Locate another freeware program called TsRemux. This is just like DVDshrink 3.2 in the way that it can stream out unnecessary content (subtitles/foreign languages). Through TsRemux open up the .m2ts file that you have determined is the movie. Then you will see the extra contents. Select the first video stream, the first audio stream, and the first subtitle stream (they are usually the English ones, sometimes you may have to re-do this to locate the correct sound, but there should only be ONE OF EACH selected). Make sure you click the box about where the streams are that says "Blu-Ray TrueHD to .....". Click "remux" and viola. What was a 25 gig movie file should now only be about 15 gigs.

NOTE**** Right now it is WAY more cost efficient to back up your blu-rays to an external hard drive than to re-burn them onto a blu-ray disk. Disks average at about 25 dollars each. That's about eight movies for 200 dollars right? A 320 gig e.xternal will run you just as much as eight blu-ray disks but can fit 21 movies (at 15 gigs each).
NOTE* There are no advertisements in this review, I'm simply stating what I use to backup my own blu-ray disks, please only use the software that you find is most convenient for yourself. Thanks for reading and I hope I was helpful.
*Any further question google "Laymans Guide to Blu-ray" and click the first link.
Good Luck!

Purchased this a few days after Christmas. Always wanted a Blu-Ray burner and set my purchase price for a top notch drive at below $100.00. It took over two years for the price to finally come down. The drive is very easy to install and has burned perfect back ups from 3 different BD-R disc manufactures so it does not seem to be finicky on the blank media it will use. Firmware update through Liteon SmartPack is a one step simple process. Also Liteon has online chat technical advice with very knowledgeable advisers. Also includes CyberLink Blu-ray suite software. If your looking for a very fast quiet BD burner that is easily updated with good technical support do not hesitate to purchase this drive.

LG Electronics BP06LU10 LightScribe 6X External Blu-ray Rewriter Drive (Black) Review

When I first saw this unit, I have second doubts getting it. I make a lot of short films for myself and for my family and friends but I need something to burn it in HD quality video. A AVCHD-DVD is too short and it has a small capacity to make one in a DVD-R. I heard good things about blu-rays and people are eager to know if the Macbook Pro can support the hardware. Luckily I got this one, tried on my Macbook Pro.... VIOLA! It worked! I used Roxio Toast Titanium Pro for burning BD-R with my Macbook Pro.
On my netbook, the device worked (and I was using Windows XP Pro!). I can burn files and read them from the unit. The disadvantage of burning files from my netbook to the blu-ray is it takes more time to burn them on disc. Never thought it took me more than an hour and a half to burn on a 25gb 4x BD-R (using the latest Nero Burning software, I forgot the version number). But still, it was worth it!
I recommend this to the people who love making videos on their Mac and needs a burner to make High Definition videos on a Blu-ray Discs.

Samsung Blu-Ray Internal SATA Drive with Lightscribe SH-B083L/BSBP (Black) Review

Samsung Blu-Ray Internal SATA Drive with Lightscribe SH-B083L/BSBP (Black)
Average Reviews:

I have always been a fan of Samsung's products and ordered this drive as an upgrade to the old DVD-ROM that I had in my MPC Millennia system from a couple of years ago. As always, Amazon got the drive to me very quickly and while this is an OEM drive, Amazon has it packaged in it's own box which is better than I have seen from their competitors.
The drive installed easily and works very nicely. I haven't tried the Lightscribe functionality yet but I am sure that it will work fine. Samsung did a really nice job designing this drive. The bezel is very nice looking, much better than just a plain black front.
The software that comes with the drive seems to be very robust. I like the BD advisor which basically will look at your system and tell you if you are capable of runn Blu-Ray. That's cool, especially for users who may not be as familiar with the different technologies.
For under $100 this is a great drive for an upgrade in an older system or for people building new systems. I am sure with a brand new system build, this drive will perform at an even higher level as the memory and CPU will push it to the max.
I would recommend this drive to friends.

This Samsung Blu Ray Player / CD /DVD burner with Lightscribe is a very good drive.
Easy to install and easy to use.
I note another review that the box is supposed to include SATA cables and screws.
In my case they were not needed because I used the existing SATA cable and carrier.
The drive is great but be aware that you will need to purchase software
to view Blu Ray movies, the included software only plays DVD movies.
It includes the usual CD / DVD software for burning and playing.
The 12x BD read speed is nuch better than most drives and the blu ray movies play very smoothly.
Most of the other drives on Amazon are 8x or 10x
