I apparently got the last new copy of the book. That was fortunate since I don't buy used books. This is a gem. I am not familiar with the other author, but Chip Silverman is a Baltimore area native, and presumably is fairly familiar with the "Block". An Esquire writer is given an assignment to write about "The Block". "THe Block" is an area of Baltimore known for its Strip Bars. He visits a club and is intrigued with Harry "The Lord" Tennyson, who could have been called "The Man On The Block". Tennyson was the owner of the Desert Club, which is probably based on The Oasis. The Narrator (who is Black, but does not come across as an African American) interviews a legendary Stripper, Katherine Louise, who is obviously based on Blaze Starr. And the Narrator, Charles Whittier, (does that sound like a black person's name to you?) becomes involved in trying to solve the disappearance of Tennyson, in the 50s. The Book describes the Block in the 50s, and discusses changes up to when this book was written, in the 90s. The Book is a Fun Mystery, with a nice ending. Buy it, and I think you will like it. If you do like it, try the Tess Monaghan series by Laura Lippmann , and I think you will like those books also.
