Weevils in the Flour: An Oral Record of the 1930s Depression in Australia Review
Average Reviews:
(More customer reviews)This is a very famous book in Australia, detailing first-hand accounts from ordinary and not-so-ordinary folk living through the Great Depression of the 1930's. The cross-section of society that Lowenstein chooses to reflect this difficult period gives you a universal picture of what it must have been like living through those times. Lowenstein's socialist credentials do not hinder (in my opinion) the extraordinary objectivity of this tale. It is a very life-affirming book about a life-affirming time in Australia's (and the world's) history. Should be required reading for all schools.
