The book presents an interesting picture of what might have transpired during the years when Hatshepsut held the power. Only once in the story does the narrative fail-when Thutmose takes off on a trip to the Delta and a beautiful girl is killed, resulting in Thutmose witnessing a gruesome mummification procedure. Otherwise, the story flows and gives a credible explanation for how Thutmose survived the reign of Hatshepsut. Gabriel's readers hope that a sequel is in the writing to enlighten us about the reign of the hero.
