(More customer reviews)Purchased this engraver to replace a $70 value electric one which failed after years of use. It never did penetrate the M2 tool steel very well. The pneumatic pen has a much higher impact rate, so it creates smooth, deep engravings in the M2 tool steel. (very hard material) I believe the tip is carbide. I was hoping to get diamond, but it's not available for this tool. The tip, however, looks like new after several uses, so maybe diamond is not needed. The instructions recommend filtering the air and regulating it to 70psi. I didn't invest in a filter/regulator, and am using the plant air pressure, which is 95psi. The instructions say this will dramatically shorten the life of the engraver, so consider this when purchasing. A flow control with a small gauge would work to limit the pressure at the pen while it is operating....I may use that technique.
It appears to be well made and I am very impressed at how well it works so far.
