You will not be sorry to go to an ancient land for this touching story of competing cultures, a strong heroine, and an author's insight into one of the lost marvels of the ancient world, the Hanging Gardens of Babylon. I found the historical notes, a description of characters, and a glossary to be very helpful for a non-historian reader; thus, I could approach this (to me) unfamiliar time and place with much confidence, and just let the rich details of time, place, and character wash over me ~~ much like the Euphrates itself.
